“Hi, I’m Carmine.” He flashed a grin at the woman before him.

She smiled back. “Carmine. Made from Carminic acid. It’s used as a red food dye. A good number of people are allergic to it.”

He just blinked. Whatever segue to a conversation he had been expecting. That hadn’t been one.

His grandmother had predicted every grandchild’s meeting of their true love. His cousin Larry had met his wife in college just as grandma had said. His sister Alice had met her husband over a car wreck, just as grandma had predicted. For the longest time she would not tell him when he would meet his true love. Finally one Mother’s Day she relented.

“Son,” she sighed. “You’ll meet her when I die.”

“What do you mean grandma you’re in perfect health?”

“And I’ll be healthy for several more years,” she grinned. “Have fun. See the world. You will be older before you are ready to meet her. She’ll be my nurse when I die.”

“Grandma…” That was all he could say with a tear in his eye.

Very few things scared her. As a critical care nurse she dealt with life and death everyday. But a 5 foot nothing little old Italian grandmother could. Especially when she took a liking to you and asked if you were married as the very first question. And then tried to expound upon the virtues of her eligible grandson. He was in the movies and on TV or so she said. Tanya tried to get out of there when talk turned to the grandson. She’d met is seemed like most of the family. Dom was one of the sons. Larry, Ray, Gina, and more she only recognized by faces. They were there every day. The clan was gathering. Because grandma was dying. She had fought and fought the cancer. It was going to win.

It was hard watching someone you love’s family die. She accepted the death that was coming. Her husband’s grandmother. The fight against the cancer. The hope. The denial. The bargaining. The defeat. The acceptance. She watched as every member of his family went through the stages of grief in their own way. She would hold in front of the family. While he openly wept she would stand stoically by his side, a comforting arm around him. She was the professional. She would stay during the hospice time and change the bed. He had pulled her aside and asked her point blank if the breathing pattern his grandmother had was known as a death rattle. She had admitted it was. But it wasn’t until the middle of the night that she would turn to him crying.

Happy Mother’s Day. Don’t ask me why I’m up at 7am on a Sunday. Maybe I knew Lucas had put out the Grazia set at Earthtones.

The whole look is inspired by this dress which is a dollarbie from Nicky Ree. My pose is from the new Vanity set from Torrid.

She facinated him.

Sweet one second, full of sass another.

She could stand up.

She could melt down.

Someone could be dying in front of her. She would never flinch.

Her own emotions scared her.

She hated shoes. She wanted to have a barefoot wedding. He was going to let her.

I couldn’t resist this top called “oh let’s be preppy” by H&V. But then I had to see how far I could take it. Turned out pretty far.
